Tyre Safety : Check Tyre Pressure

Even when you're not driving tyres can still lose pressure through heat and atmospherics, and oxygen slowly escapes through the casing. With general driving, your tyres can lose around 2psi per month, so it's a good idea to check pressures once a month.

  • Find the correct pressure for your tyres, located on the door jamb, door edge or glovebox (or check the handbook)

  • It will be in kPa (kilopascals) or psi (pounds per square inch)

  • 10psi = 70kPa

  • Tyres should be inflated to the vehicle manufacturers recommended pressures. Unless the tyre size has been changed from Original fitment. In this case, contact a Firestone Direct store for advice.

  • Tyre pressure can be increased by 4-6psi if you are towing a heavy trailer or carrying a heavy load in your vehicle (remember to return them to normal afterwards)

  • Tyre pressures should only be checked when the tyre is cold. This is due to the tyre heating up when in use, causing increased air pressure, which in turn will give an incorrect tyre pressure reading.

  • Make sure you have caps on every tyre valve. Caps prevent dirt and moisture entering the valve mechanism causing damage and also prevent sudden tyre deflation through the valve.
