Illustrious History
It has been more than 100 years since Firestone tyres was founded by Harvey S. Firestone (yes, it’s a surname) in Akron, USA. In 1900. Firestone was founded when only 800 vehicles were registered on US roads. Harvey became close friends with Henry Ford and supplied tyres to the famous Model T. In 1908, Firestone introduced the first tyre with a non-skid tread pattern. Firestone tyres were the first Indianapolis 500 winner in 1911. In 1988, Firestone combined with Bridgestone to form the world’s largest tyre company.

Over most of the past century, Firestone tires have appeared and won in nearly every form of motorsports competition, including the top forms of open-wheel racing: Formula One, the IRL and CART competition. Firestone Firehawks are the exclusive tire of the Indy Racing League. In 2006, the brand marked its 57th victory at the legendary brickyard, winning more Indy 500 races than all other tyre brands combined.
